Design of Energy Absorbing Metamaterials Using Stochastic Soft-Wall Billiards

Physical principles for designing cellwise artificial materials with energy-absorbing/harvesting and wave guiding properties are discussed in the present work. We analyzed evolution of waves a one-dimensional lattice 3D massive potential wells light particles inside. The were coupled elastic springs represented soft-wall versions so-called stochastic billiards. A billiard could switch from repelling to stadium type as parameter shape changed its sign positive negative. found that certain shapes wells/containers provided one-directional trend energy flow chain containers into chaotically moving inclusions by increasing their total kinetic energy. As result, propagating became trapped giving rise standing chaotic mode decaying amplitudes.
